Is Wix good enough for a contractor website?

Short answer
Often, yes. Wix suits a small contractor who needs a few service pages, a quote form, click-to-call, and job photos, and will update it themselves. Pick Core or higher for booking, payments, or photo uploads. The tradeoff: a Wix site only runs on Wix, so leaving means a rebuild.I build custom sites, so weigh my bias.

That's fine if you plan to stay.
When is Wix genuinely enough for a contractor?
Wix fits if most of this is true:
- You're starting out or running a small crew, and you need a credible site soon.
- Your services fit on a handful of pages: what you do, where you work, photos, reviews, contact.
- You or someone in your office will log in and keep it current.
- You don't need the site to push leads into job software beyond what Wix already connects to.

Wix fits if most of this is true.
If that's you, Wix can do the job. The basics (clear service pages, your towns written out, your license number, real photos) work the same on Wix as anywhere else.
What does Wix cost, and which plan does a contractor need?
Wix's plans are Free, Light, Core, Business, and Business Elite. Wix says all Premium plans include hosting, AI creation tools, and 24/7 customer care, and it offers a 14-day money-back guarantee. The Free plan has no custom domain: Wix's help center says you need a Premium plan to connect one, and free sites get an assigned wixsite.com address.

| Plan | Listed price (per month, billed yearly) | Booking and payments | Lead-capture forms | File upload field (homeowner photos) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Can display services, can't take bookings | 4 forms | No |
| Light | $17 | Not included | 4 forms, up to 10 fields each | No |
| Core | $29 | Included | 10 forms, up to 50 fields | Yes |
| Business | $39 | Included | 25 forms | Yes |
| Business Elite | $159 | Included | 75 forms | Yes |
Prices and features checked 10/20/2026. They change; check the vendor's site.
Prices come from Wix's own blog (checked 10/20/2026). Wix's plans page says prices are "for yearly subscriptions, paid in full at the time of purchase" and that "Prices and currency vary by location." Form limits and the file upload field come from Wix's Forms help article. Check the plans page for renewal and monthly-billing prices before you buy (see builder vs custom cost over three years).
For most contractors, the plan question comes down to one thing: do you want homeowners to book an estimate, pay a deposit, or send photos of the problem through the site? If yes, that starts at Core.
Can a Wix site rank on Google and show up in AI answers?
Yes. The old line that "Wix is bad for SEO" doesn't hold up as a blanket statement. Wix documents per-page SEO settings (URL slugs, indexing, meta tags), a robots.txt editor, and a redirect manager.
Google says there are "no additional requirements" to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond normal SEO, and no special schema needed. ChatGPT needs its search crawler, OAI-SearchBot, to be allowed. Claude's is Claude-SearchBot; xAI doesn't document one for Grok. Those are platform-neutral rules. If you've edited your Wix robots.txt, check that it doesn't block those crawlers.

The rules are platform-neutral.
Getting found on Google and in AI answers
Wix's SEO dashboard also has a "Gen AI Visibility" section. Using that dashboard requires connecting Google Search Console, which Wix says needs "a Premium plan and a domain connected to your site."
How much SEO and schema control does Wix give you?
More than people think, with real limits:
- Structured data. Wix adds Local Business markup to your homepage when you enter a business name and location. You can add your own JSON-LD, but only up to five markups per page, under 7,000 characters, and only on static pages, not dynamic ones.
- robots.txt. Wix has an editor. Wix calls it "an advanced feature" and says "Wix Customer Care cannot help you with any changes you make to your robots.txt file."
- Redirects. Wix's redirect manager sets 301 redirects, which Wix says "only work with custom domains." Bulk imports by CSV go "up to 500 URLs at once."
- Support. Wix Customer Care "cannot help with any changes to your site's structured data." If you add markup, you're on your own.
For a contractor with a dozen pages, those limits rarely bite. For a contractor who wants a page for every service in every town, the five-markup cap and static-pages-only rule start to matter.
Can homeowners book estimates or send photos through Wix?
Yes, on the right plan. Wix Bookings lets a free site display services, but to "start getting booked and accepting payments" you need a plan that supports Bookings, which starts at Core. The file upload field on Wix Forms (useful when a homeowner wants to send a photo of a leak or a damaged roof) also starts at Core.
What happens if you want to leave Wix later?
You rebuild. Wix says: "In order for your site to work properly, it needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers." Your words, photos, and domain can move (see Wix vs Squarespace vs GoDaddy vs custom). The design and structure don't.

You rebuild.
That's fine if you plan to stay. It's a real cost if you expect to want custom integrations, a customer portal, or AI agents connected to your site later. If you do move, set up 301 redirects from your old page addresses so you don't lose the search traffic you've built.
When is Wix not the right fit?
Wix starts to strain when:
- You need many service-and-town pages with their own markup, and the five-per-page, static-only schema limits get in the way.
- You want leads to flow into your CRM or job software with your own rules.
- You want a customer portal, job status updates, or invoice approval in one place.
- You want to own the code and be able to move hosts.
- Nobody on your team will actually maintain it. (That's not a Wix problem, but it's the most common reason any site goes stale.)
If none of those apply, stay on Wix and put your energy into content and your Google Business Profile.
How 3Fold Labs helps
If your site is a few pages, a contact form and photos, and you don't plan to connect it to job software, I'd tell you to stay on Wix. A custom build makes sense when you need what this post lists as Wix's limits: more control over search settings, a site you can move, or room for integrations later. The same test applies to Squarespace vs a custom website and GoDaddy Website Builder vs custom. When custom is the right call, you and I agree on the deliverables and cost before work begins.
Here's what goes into custom websites for service businesses.
FAQ
Is Wix bad for Google rankings?
Not as a rule. Wix gives you the standard controls: page titles, indexing settings, redirects, robots.txt, and structured data. What ranks a contractor is mostly the content and the Business Profile, on any platform.
Can I add schema to a Wix site?
Yes, custom JSON-LD on static pages, up to five markups per page and under 7,000 characters each. Wix support won't help troubleshoot it.
Can I move my Wix site to WordPress or a custom site?
Not as a file export. Wix sites only run on Wix's servers, so you rebuild and redirect.
Which Wix plan do I need for estimate booking?
Core or higher, per Wix's plans page.
